Brief Resume

Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Uttarakhand visited the centre on 22nd March, 2018 and announced the Institute to be developed as a Centre of Excellence for Medicinal, Aromatic Plants and Wild Flowers based on integrated Agri-Horticulture model. He also emphasized on commercial plantation of aromatic plants having no wild animal menace and promoting the cultivation of potential wild flowers specific to the temperate climate to boost flower market in the state.

History
Vision:

To establish a premier Institute for R&D work on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Stakeholder’s capacity building and to develop technology which is regionally relevant, socially acceptable and just, and also fulfil the aspirations of people.

Mission

    To develop a world class institute facilitating bio-prospecting and drug development, rejuvenating Traditional System of Medicines by technology intervention, conserving germplasm of MAPs, development of appropriate cultivation packages, overall capacity building for herbal sector and importantly to generate trained human resources through research, training and transfer of technology to fulfil the dream of herbal state.

Objectives
    • To provide and impart excellent education in MAPs including traditional medicinal system through vocational training courses and research to develop human resource for entrepreneurship development and herbal sector.
    • To carry out extensive exploration activities on MAPs, documentation and to create a state of the art plant repository for sustainable utilization.
    • To explore possibilities on entrepreneurship development based on traditional medicinal system (TMS) including traditional medicinal knowledge (TMK) and aromatic plant based value added installation and products.
    • To develop suitable agronomic practices and to facilitate technical know-how for sustainable utilization of natural resources.
    • To produce trained man-power by imparting knowledge and technical proficiency for commercial cultivation of MAPs, bio-prospecting and for entrepreneurship based on herbal produce.
    • Post harvesting technology, processing including value addition and formulations of aromatic plants of the region.
    • To evaluate, scrutinized and isolation of new bio-molecules from potential plants used in TSM and local health care system in the region and to encourage the establishment of herbal based industry.
    • To impart knowledge regarding marketing and economical aspects and managing small and   medium enterprises.
    • Drug evaluation and formulations including clinical trials.
