Hills cover major part of Uttarakhand State. About 65% of the total geographical area is under forest. For myriad reasons, agriculture in hill region of the State has been at subsistence level. However, horticulture and forestry are the two major sectors that hold enormous potential for sustainable growth. With a view to develop these sectors through scientific interventions, the State Government has established Uttarakhand University of Horticulture & Forestry (UUHF) by an Act of State Legislative Assembly [The Uttarakhand Krishi Evam Prodyogik Vishwavidhyalaya (Amendment) Act, 2011 {Uttarakhand Act No.13 of 2011}] dated 28th April, 2011 with Head Quarter at Bharsar,Pauri Garhwal.
The Notification No. 732/XIII-II/2011-12(02)/2011, dated 26th September, 2011 has also been issued in this regard by the State Government. With the establishment of UUHF, various campuses, Colleges, Research Centres and KVKs viz., Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali College of Horticulture, Bharsar; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Distt. Pauri Garhwal; College of Forestry & Hill Agriculture, Ranichauri; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Distt. Tehri Garhwal; Research Centers at Kanatal and Gaja (Tehri Garhwal) of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology have been merged with UUHF.

Dr. Parvinder Kaushal born on 01 .04.1957 at Village Kahnani Teh, Nalagarh, Distt. Solan. Himachal Pradesh is presently working as Vice-Chancellor VCSG UUHF Bharsar. Worked as Regional Director/Coordinator. National Afforestation and Eco-development Board at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. Solan (HP) He has done M.Sc. Forestry from Solan and Ph.D. Forestry from Nancy. France with First Class. He has been actively involved in teaching. Research & development. Extension and administration for the last 35 years. He has served different Institutions/Universities in different capacities during this period. He has worked with Indian Council for Forestry Res. and Edu. Dehradun (1979-1981), Punjab Agri. University, Ludhiana (1981 -1992) as assistant and Associate Professor and as Dean. Faculty of Forestry at Birsa Agriculture University. Ranchi, Jharkhand (2005-2009). He is recipient of National Award for young scientist in 1989, and Himachal Shri Award in 2014....

College of Hill Agriculture is the third constituent college of VCSG Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry which is spread in an area of 8.09 hectare at an altitudinal range of 1900-2300 m above mean.
Research and Extension Centre
Research and Extension Centre, Kanatal
The Horticulture Research and Extension Centre (HREC), Kanatal is situated in District Tehri Garhwal on Chamba- Mussoorrie Road. It is about 28 Km from Ranichauri. Presently, it is functioning under the administrative control of the College of Forestry, Ranichauri. It is spread over an area of 12.6 hectares at an altitude ranging between 1700 and 2200 m above msl. The geographical and climatic conditions of the centre are best suited for the production, propagation and maintenance of nursery of different horticultural crops especially temperate fruit crops. The research centre, with orchards of temperate fruit crops, falls under the fruit belt namely “Chamba- Mussoorrie Fal Patti”declared by the State Government.
Horticulture Research and Extension Centre, Kanatal has extended its farm activities nearly in 12 ha mainly for the establishment of orchards of various temperate fruits.

The land for development of the centre was transferred from civil land of State Revenue Department which was occupied by Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation in the year 2013.To establish a premier centre for R&D work on floriculture and vegetables, and to develop technology that is regionally relevantand socially acceptable besides fulfilling the need of people.
The centre has 17 different types of polyhouses for research work on flowers and vegetables.
